OKAMOTO FESTIVAL BALLET
YASUHIRO OKAMOTO / ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
ABOUT / HISTORY
Okamoto Festival Ballet was founded in 1980 under the leadership of founder and artistic director Yasuhiro Okamoto.

It quickly became known for its theatrical expressiveness and high production values, and for its emphasis on excellent technique, while always striving for accessibility and intimacy with its audience.

In its first festival in August 1980, it had as principal guest dancers Stephen Jefferies of the Royal Ballet, Yasuyo Omoto of Momoko Tani Ballet Co. (Tokyo) and other leading dancers from throughout Japan.

The repertoire is firmly based on a mixture of the popular classics, other international works of proven quality and occasional works created especially for the company.

The company has collaborated with several well-known groups such as the Denis Wayne Dance Company ("Dancers" - N.Y.) and the Crow’s Nest Dance Company for the American Dance Festival.
